REVIEW: Jamie Genevieve X Cult Beauty

a picture of the cultbeauty X jamie genevieve box coover, a black box with gold foil lettering and decoration

If you’re anything like me, you seek out reviews of products before you buy them. For luxury makeup and skin care, I usually turn to Jamie Genevieve. She always reviews products honestly, and offers a variety of brands. So imagine my sheer delight when CultBeauty announced a collaboration, where Jamie was to release a box full of all her holy grail products. I knew I had to get my hands on it, and so decided to do a Jamie Genevieve makeup review.

CultBeauty  is an online makeup store that stocks all those brands you just can’t get your hands on on the high street. After seeing the beautiful work Lydia Elise Millen did with them, which I didn’t manage to get my hands on, I was determined to have this arrive on my doorstep.

I’ll start off by saying that not being biased writing this will be the HARDEST part of this review. Because Jamie Genevieve is definitely top of my list of girl crushes, and her Glaswegian charm and genuine, lovely demeanor is why millions of us follow and adore her.

After signing up for the email wait list, which allowed me to be notified the minute it went on sale, Jamie released the big reveal video, complete with tutorial of how she uses all the products featured in the box.

Let me tell you that I am the opposite to her in near enough every way. Jamie is olive skinned, tans, has green eyes and can make grunge look glam. Here I am, pale, freckled, red haired and not at all grunge inclined, and I manage to be able to use her products with complete ease and feel comfortable following her tutorials.

THE BOX

The box arrived, bubble wrapped in its neat black package, and from under the protective slip was this golden foiled dream. I’ll admit, I took photos before I’d even tried out the product. But it wasn’t long until they genuinely became a part of my daily routine.

Before I purchased this box, I had never tried any of these products. They were all cult favourites of a lot of influencers and beauty YouTubers that I followed, but individually all a bit extravagantly priced for my then student budget, so I never purchased them.

IS IT WORTH IT?

What really drew me to buying this collaboration box was the variety of products, that together made a full look. It wasn’t just about my skin, or eyes, each product served a different purpose and they were ALL full sized. Not minis or testers, but full sized products.

Now, this box was probably one of the most cost effective I’ve seen for sale. Here’s a breakdown of the products that came in the box, and their individual prices on www.cultbeauty.co.uk :

Omorovicza Queen Of Hungry Mist – £15

Becca Opal Highlighter (3 shades to choose from including Champagne Pop and Moonstone) – £30

Huda Beauty Warm Brown Obsessions Palette – £25

Benefit 24hr Brow Setter – £21.50

Nudestix Lip and Cheek Pencil In Whisper – £20

Lilly Lashes Mykonos in Faux Mink – £30

OUAI Rose Hair And Body Oil – £26

Cult Beauty Medium Travel Make Up Bag – £18

Total product value = £185.50

I purchased this box for £99 – that excluded V.A.T, because I live in the channel islands so we are not charged V.A.T on imported goods, and it included shipping.

That is an unreal saving to start with. I believe if you purchased it including V.A.T, the box cost £110 with free international shipping. The box arrived quickly, undamaged and so well packed. All the products fit inside the travel bag that was included, and they all came in their packaging with information and descriptions of how to use the products.

MY THOUGHTS

Out of all the products, the only thing I haven’t used yet are the Lilly Lashes in the style Faux Mink. That’s purely because they are some LASHES – they’re big, fluffy, and just a bit out of my comfort zone. But they’re amazing quality, and I am looking forward to using them when the time comes.

As for every other product, I use each one pretty much every day, if not every other day. We’ll start with the skin care category products:

The OUAI Rose Hair and Body Oil is something I use mainly on my hair when I’ve washed it, but also on my skin after showering and in small amount in my face skincare routine. It smells amazing, and doesn’t leave any residue or feel heavy.

Along with the Omorovicza Queen Of Hungry Mist, which is like this refreshing, spa smelling mist that feels like it brings your skin back to life. I spray it over my face after I’ve finished my skincare regime, and in my hair for a little pick me up.

The make up products have become a staple part of my makeup routine. Whether it’s a casual, minimal look, or a full glam look for going out, I use nearly all of these products.

The Benefit 24hr Brow Setter is a game changer – I’ll never use another brow gel again I think. It keeps every brow hair in place, all day, and makes my penciled in brows look fluffy and naturally full.

The Huda Beauty Warm Brown Obsessions Palette has become my go to palette. Compact enough to travel with, amazing quality and a shade range that can offer you a palette to make any type of look, it’s something I will definitely repurchase.

The Becca highlighter has been on my list of things to try since I first started watching Jamie’s videos. It’s so unbelievably pigmented, soft as anything and blends so well. I can see this full size one lasting me for ages, as long as it never cracks on me! I also love that Jamie made it so you could choose which colour product you wanted to include in your box. Inclusivity of all skin tones in a box product like this is o important. I chose opal because I wanted to try it. It’s probably that bit too pink for me, but I still use it and love it as both a highlighter and an eyeshadow. It’s great on the brow bone and tear duct.

The Nudestix Lip and Cheek Pencil In Whisper was the only product I was unsure about. I’ve never used blush type products, and not got on well with crayon type lip products in the past, but was pleasantly surprised with this. It’s very soft, blends out beautifully and actually isn’t too pale for me. I used it blended into my lip balm for a tinted look, or as a base to mix with other nude lipsticks.

Finally, the Cult Beauty Medium Travel Make Up Bag has changed how I go through airport security. In fact, it’s just become my go to make up bag. It’s such a good size, really sturdy and keeps it shape, and can fit my daily makeup essentials, skincare products and brushes easily.

Would I Buy Again?

After a fair few months using all of these products, I can definitely say that I would repurchase this box. Even if it was the same products, purely to restock and replace the ones I already have, the savings make it so worth it.

If you haven’t already, definitely check out Jamie Genevieve on both Instagram and Youtube. She is the sweetest soul, and makes makeup so accessible to everyone no matter your budget or ability. She’s also bloody gorgeous and her pup is a little heartbreaker, so even if makeup isn’t your thing, she’ll become your favourite person on your feed.
